Curing Stupidity at South
‘Fools,” the Neil Simon comedy, will be performed at High School South on Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, at 8 p.m. All tickets are $6 and will be available at the door.
The comedy is set in the Russian village of Kulyenchikov, a town where all of the residents have been cursed with chronic stupidity for 200 years. They hire a young school teacher to break the curse — and he only has 24 hours to do it.
The production team includes Roseann Lucarine, director; Kimberly Hudak, assistant director and producer; Roseann Lucarine, technical coordination; Lily Yu, student director; and Nikhita Thaper, assistant student director.
Cast members include Jonathan Amira, Crawford Miller, Alex Sasson, Gary Verma, Manish Modi, Sarah Esmi, Ethan Levy, Katy White, Alyssa Gay, and Ryan Alonzo. Villagers and livestock are portrayed by Kelly Fischer, Ethan Fishbane, Michael Kenny, Ryan Lamson, Sasha Soundarajan, and Josh Troger.
Stage crew members include Jenn Chin, manager; Rebecca Sgouros, assistant manager; Jason Chuang, set construction coordinator; and Elise Bautista, prop mistress. Crew members include Gaby Dall’ Asta, Alison Stroczynski, Amanda Troger, John Bowers, Sam Clarke, Kasia Hozer, Greg Steiner, Matt Steiner, Jessica Caricato, Aditi Latey, Angela Mukkadan, Izada Park, and Dana Tepper.
Lighting crew members include Steve Karasik, director; Mike Hasling, consultant; and Beky Altman, Jason Chuang, Bethany Hoffman, and Amanda Troger.
The show opened at the Eugene O’Neill Theater in New York City on March 25, 1981, and closed after 40 performances on May 9. The cast included John Rubinstein, Harold Gould, and Florence Stanley.
