The project to build the New South parking lot for the Princeton Junction station officially began on Monday, September 17, as the West Windsor Parking Authority awarded a contract for remediation and paving of the Township’s compost site off Alexander Road. Vibrations will likely be felt in the vicinity of the project, including residential areas and offices. The first construction activity is a process called “deep dynamic compaction” to provide a suitable foundation for the parking surface.
For the next six weeks, on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., a crane will be dropping a heavy weight onto the grounds of the former compost site for “compaction,” which is necessary for construction on the former landfill.
In an announcement on its website, the township states that the site will be closely monitored for compliance.
According to the township, subsequent construction activities will include storm water management, paving, lighting, and landscaping. The parking lot is expected to be ready for use by the spring, weather permitting.
