On Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Village School PTA will once again be holding a community fair to showcase area businesses, organizations, and recreational facilities. The event, designed to be more than just a fundraiser for the PTAs, is a way to help out the community by introducing residents to all that the community has to offer, especially through many parents and grandparents in the WW-P school district.
Last year’s event included more than 70 vendors and attracted more than 350 visitors. Among those participating are WW-P sports leagues and organizations, such as the Wildcats, On-the-Court Basketball, and Sockey (indoor sock hockey), which will be providing hands-on demonstrations; robotics teams, and the Rubik’s Cube Challenge. Arts organizations include West Windsor Arts Council and That Pottery Place, both which will offer hands-on arts stations. In addition, there will be police and rescue squad demonstrations, scout groups, dance companies, PTAs and parent-student organizations, tutoring services, and more.
For adults there will be jewelry sales, clothing and accessories, gift items, food and beverage vendors, hair stylists such as Great Clips, health, dental, and orthodontic care providers, area gym and fitness places (many offering discounts for attendees), and even free massages.
Door prizes include gift baskets from Trader Joe’s and DeLiteFul Foods; a bracelet from Afortiori Jewelry; and gift cards from YoGo Factory, Pizza Hut, Bagel Street, and Positano’s. The Plainsboro Food Pantry will also be present to provide information and to collect food donations for local residents.
This year’s event is being co-chaired by the Village Elementary School PTA and the Grover Middle School PTSA. The Community Fair (formerly known as the Community Business Expo) was developed last year by Sue Roy, PTA president at Village School and a writer with the News; and Mickie Jarecki, formerly the Village PTA executive vice president and now the president of the Grover Middle School PTSA.
“Because we worked on it so closely together last year, it made sense for us to collaborate again now that I am also the president of the Grover PTSA,” says Jarecki. “This event is a little different than a traditional PTA fundraiser in that we are also trying to promote the richness and variety of our community.”
