Three artists have filled Plainsboro Library’s gallery walls with Chinese brush painting. Artists include Yu Chen Chen, Sissi Ko Lu, and Hongzhan Ye, who each bring this medium to life with samples of landscape, flora, and fauna. An art reception will be held on Saturday, February 21, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., in conjunction with the library’s annual Chinese New Year celebration. The show is on view through Wednesday, February 25.
Originally from Guangdong Province in China, Sissi Ko Lu moved to the U.S. from Taiwan in 1966 to pursue further education, and later married and started a family. Always a supporter of art and literature, she also has a strong interest in promoting the Chinese opera. Her husband, Peter, is an accomplished singer in Chinese opera. Lu has studied Chinese brush painting under the tutelage of Nianzu Hu, Xiling Xie, and Dan Hsu. Lu is a resident of West Windsor.
Hongzhan (Howard) Ye came to the U.S. in 1981 from Wenzhou, China, and pursued a career in space and satellite technology. In his leisure time, he studied art and Chinese painting under Maoling Zhang and I-Hsiung Ju. Ye has taught Chinese calligraphy and painting in the Princeton Chinese School and the West Windsor Senior Center. Ye lives in West Windsor.
Born and raised in Taiwan, Yu Chen Chen moved to the U.S., where she studied brush painting with Xiling Xie and Dan Hsu. She was first drawn to this style of painting by fellow artist Biqing Zheng at a Plainsboro Library Festival of the Arts, where she had been leading students in a traditional lion dance. She now teaches at the CACA Mid Jersey Chinese School, the CACA Edison Chinese School, and Central New Jersey Tzu Chi Academy. She lives in North Brunswick.
