Plainsboro Public Library’s popular monthly book sale will explode in size on Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30. Silk Road Press has shipped 44 cartons of mostly extraordinary Chinese language books to the library for a special sale. “The 1,”425 books are beautiful,” says Jinny Baeckler, the director of the library. “Some are in English and some are art and coffee table books.”##M:[more]##
“Funds from the sale of the Chinese-language books fund cultural events throughout the year, including the community-wide Festival of the Arts and the ever-popular Chinese New Year’s celebration,” she says.
The Arizona publisher has sent books the past two years but this bonanza is close to $30,”000 worth of books. “We keep what we can use and then sell the remainder to raise funds,” says Baeckler. “The post office was delivering them two or three a day but this is overwhelming.”
The library’s business director, Wei Gao, did most of the book sorting work. She also made decisions as to which books to keep within the library and which to sell.
The regular monthly sale will be as usual on Saturday, April 29, featuring $1 for hardbacks; 50 cents for paperbacks; with media also at special prices. Sunday, April 30, is $3 a bag day. The regular book sale earns enough to help the library open on Sundays.
