After less than two years on the job, Eileen Burnash has left her position as director of the Plainsboro Public Library. The Plainsboro Library’s Board of Trustees held a special meeting on April 16 to discuss personnel issues involving “the employment status of a Library employee.” At the conclusion of the meeting Burnash had been replaced by Assistant Director Carol Quick, shown at right, who was named acting director.
When asked about the results of the meeting, incoming Board President Deborah Brett, who was not present at the meeting, stated that “we cannot discuss individual personnel issues in the press. Additional information may be provided at a later date. The only information I can provide is that Carol Quick is currently acting director of the library.”
Quick, a resident of Hamilton, has worked at the Plainsboro Library for 13 years. She previously worked for four years as the librarian at the Pennington School. Quick earned a bachelor’s degree in 1969 from Hastings College in Nebraska.
Quick, who was planning to meet with the library’s Board of Trustees on April 25 to discuss her new role, said she was already working on the summer library programs for children and adults.
Burnash, who was appointed to the director’s position in June, 2011, lives in Bernardsville and had commuted daily to Plainsboro. She had previously indicated that she did not plan to move closer in the near future. At that time her three children, all in their 20s, were either enrolled in school or working, and her mother, in her 80s, lived nearby.
Burnash replaced long-time director Jinny Baeckler, who had retired in May, 2011, after serving for 26 years as the library’s director and overseeing the library’s move from the Municipal Complex to the Village Center.
