The 2016 Carnegie Center 5K and Fun Run held in Princeton this fall raised a record-breaking total of more than $110,000 for The Parkinson Alliance.
The USATF-Certified and Sanctioned 5K race and one-mile fun run brought together close to 800 runners and over 50 teams to help raise funds for Parkinson’s research to help find a cure for the disease.
After the race, participants were greeted with various family-friendly entertainment including a Parkinson’s Information booth, awards to runners and presentation of the King Award to Gail Ruderman for her service and dedication to the Parkinson’s disease community. The Bucks County Road Runners presented The Parkinson Alliance with a donation in support of research.
The Parkinson Alliance credits the success of this year’s race to all our supporters.
“We want to thank our runners, donors, and volunteers for helping us exceed our previous fundraising milestones—to our teams who fundraised by reaching out to friends and family for support,” Carol Walton, CEO of The Parkinson Alliance, said. “We are also grateful to over 50 sponsors who made our event possible, including our host Boston Properties. Witherspoon Media Group was the event’s media sponsor. In addition to our registered participants, so many more individuals came on race day to show their support.”
Parkinson’s disease is a chronic, degenerative and neurological disorder that affects at least one million people in the U.S. Every year, approximately 60,000 individuals are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which means that every nine minutes, someone is newly diagnosed.
“It is so important to unite and show support to individuals who are living with Parkinson’s disease today,” Martin Tuchman, chairman of The Parkinson Alliance, said. “Together, we can win the fight against Parkinson’s by helping to not only raise awareness about the disease, but also by raising funds to support research for better treatments and hopefully one day, a cure.”
