A total of five candidates filed to run for three seats on the WW-P school board in this year’s school elections on Wednesday, April 27.
In West Windsor, three candidates have filed for two open seats on the board. Incumbent Richard Kaye, of Coneflower Lane, will seek re-election. Dane Krug, of Ellsworth Drive, and Scott Powell, of Cambridge Way, will also run for election. Incumbent Randall Tucker did not file to run for re-election by the March 8 deadline.
Incumbent Alapakkam Manikandan, of Ashford Drive, will face challenger Rachelle Feldman Hurwitz, of Dogwood Drive, for one open seat in Plainsboro.
Feldman Hurwitz is a mediator for the National Center for Dispute Settlement and has a background in fundraising. She has a bachelor’s degree in history and communication from Rutgers University. She is a mother of three.
Kaye, a retired teacher, educational consultant, and principal, is running for his third term.
Krug is the co-president of the Community Middle School PTSA and vice president of the Friends of the West Windsor Library. She earned her bachelor’s from Duke University in marketing, advertising, and project management. She also has a master’s in nonprofit management.
Manikandan, a computer software project manager, works for BASF, one of the leading chemical companies in the world. He has been involved in the district, including coaching his daughter’s the Science Olympiad team a few years ago. He is seeking his second term.
Powell is a product manager in pension risk transfer for Prudential Financial. He has a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University as well as a master’s in business administration from the University of Southern California. He has a son in second grade and one who will be in kindergarten next year.
