The West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance has released a set of recommendations for improvements to bike and pedestrian paths along Bear Brook Road to the train station that it plans to present to the Township Council and administration.##M:[more]##
The recommendations for Bear Brook Road follow the latest West Windsor Walks event that took place earlier this month along the road attended by 30 residents and officials.
Suggestions include improvements to the macadam path along the road, the crosswalk across Bear Brook Road at Windsor Haven Drive, and to the intersection of Alexander Road and Bear Road/Vaughn Drive. The recommendations suggest adding linkages between the sidewalk on Winthrop Way and macadam path along Bear Brook Road, street lighting along the macadam path, and continuing the path beyond the crosswalk with Windsor Haven Drive all the way to Alexander Road.
Other suggestions include better pedestrian crossing signage, a reduction in the speed limit to 35 miles per hour on the east side of the crosswalk, and the addition of bike lanes on Bear Brook Road between the crosswalk at Bear Brook Road and Windsor Haven Drive and Alexander Road. The alliance will also have a busy weekend coming up on June 7 and 8. Kicking off the weekend is the fifth annual Bikefest on Saturday, June 7 (raindate is June 8) at Community Park, which includes six different events — a 40-mile ride, 20-mile ride, 7-mile Trolley Line Ride, and a 1-Mile “Family Fun” Ride. A Bike Safety Rodeo will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Bikefest is followed by National Trail Day on Sunday, June 8, when the alliance will lead walks through the newly preserved Zaitz Woods preserve on Southfield Road.
