The Princeton Junction Neighborhoods’ Coalition (PJNC) will hold a brunch buffet to raise funds to help the homeless in Mercer County.
The Sunday, April 17, event begins at noon at the Ganges Restaurant, in the Ellsworth Shopping Center on Princeton-Hightstown Road. The event is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Proceeds of the brunch will be donated to Homefront, a non-profit organization whose goal is to end hopelessness in Mercer County.
The cost per person for the buffet is $20; $15 per child 12 and under, and tickets will be available in advance of the event. Call Ganges at 609-750-1550 for more information.
“We would like to sponsor this event for people in our community to get together and share a meal, and also some ‘food for thought’ about HomeFront, an organization that builds affordable housing and provides a full range of social programs for the homeless in the greater Mercer County Community,” says Farrell Delman, a PJNC organizer and the treasurer for HomeFront.
According to Delman, HomeFront Executive Director Connie Mercer will speak at the event about the various opportunities for township residents to volunteer for a worthy cause. “It’s also an opportunity to help promote one of our Princeton Junction merchants on Princeton-Hightstown Road or Route 571, an area the township has talked about making a village center.”
Ganges, owned by township residents Sri and Srini Chandupatla, features a range of dishes from Northern and Southern India, and also specializes in Hyderabadi cuisine.
The PJNC is an organization of residents dedicated to promoting improvements to individual neighborhoods in Princeton Junction and the entire community. Neighborhoods represented by the group include Benford Estates, Berrien City, the Estates at Princeton Junction, the Gables senior building, Penns Neck, Sherbrooke Estates, Walden Woods, Wellington Estates, Windsor Chase, and Windsor Haven.
Also represented by the coalition are residents who live in areas that do not have a neighborhood designation, including Bear Brook Road, Clarksville Road, Cranbury Road, North Post Road, and Princeton-Hightstown Road.
“Our mission is to act as an advocate for concerns and issues identified and shared by the Princeton Junction neighborhoods’ residents to promote and participate in positive and responsible change and sustainability,” says the PJNC website.
The group also looks to inform residents of Princeton Junction of potential changes and events that could affect the community, monitor township officials and other governing bodies to enact needed improvements and initiatives supported by Princeton Junction residents, and facilitate and improve communication between the residents of Princeton Junction and township officials, and other community groups and individuals.
HomeFront provides services to more than 200 homeless families in Mercer County. Founded over a decade ago, HomeFront fills many of the holes left in the safety net after welfare reform including running Mercer County’s emergency shelter.
