There are many chances to see musical concerts featuring West Windsor and Plainsboro musicians in the next few weeks. Some of the annual events have an added twist this year. See listings for more information.

The band concert at High School South on Friday, June 3, will be bittersweet. An annual event featuring recognition of graduating seniors and awards to musicians, this is the final concert at the school for Anthony Pappalardo, who is retiring in June after close to 40 years in the WW-P school district. Band alumni are invited to play “Stars and Stripes Forever” in the final concert of the year. Will they all fit on the stage?

High Schools North and South presents Mozart’s Requiem in a joint choir concert at Princeton University Chapel, on Thursday, June 2, at 8 p.m. The performance will be conducted by Dr. Allen Crowell with organist Eric Plutz. Soloists include Laura Kosar, Meg Orita, Timothy Coombs, and Devin Mariman. Tickets are $10 for general seating and $25 for preferred seating. Mercer County Symphonic Band presents its spring concert on Wednesday, June 1. The band is comprised of 60 area musicians spanning three generations in age. Musicians from West Windsor and Plainsboro include Marty Timins on alto sax, Dave Halter on trombone, Tony Travaglione on clarinet, Mike Davis on percussion, and John Roeder on tuba. Jim Yeh, West Windsor-Plainsboro High School, Class of 1997, also plays the tuba.

The band selections are designed to appeal to a broad variety of musical tastes and age groups. Conductor Louis Woodruff guides the musicians through classics, contemporary music, and traditional marches including selections from “Jesus Chris Superstar,” “American Triptych,” “Scenes from the Louvre,” “The Irish Washerwoman,” and a medley of Woody Herman hits. The band’s signature signoff is John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Admission is free.
