Dr. Robert Melillo, a world renowned chiropractic neurologist, believes there is one common underlying issue affecting children who have been labeled” with any of these learning and/or behavioral issues — an imbalance in the development of the left and right sides of the brain.
When either side of the brain develops at a different rate, an imbalance or disconnect occurs. This condition is called functional disconnection syndrome (FDS). The newest Brain Balance Achievement Center is opening the last week of May in Pennington. Dr. Vincent Kiechlin, who studied with Dr. Melillo and specializes in working with children with neurological issues at his Peak Chiropractic Neurology practice in Princeton, is the director of the Brain Balance Center.
“Each side of our brain develops at different rates and at a different time, giving us our unique personalities and skill sets,” said Dr. Kiechlin. “After thoroughly evaluating each child, we can determine which regions of the brain are not balanced or synched and design a program that delivers measurable results that make a world of difference.”
Brain Balance Achievement Center’s approach is multi-faceted and consists of:
A comprehensive evaluation of the child’s sensory, motor, auditory and visual skills.
A custom-designed plan comprised of four components: physical, behavioral, academic and nutritional.
Another underserved audience that can benefit from the program is children who are under performing at school.
“What we find is that some children who just get by in school have a brain imbalance that has not been identified, but that can be easily corrected. These children who might be getting B, Cs and Ds all of sudden start getting As and Bs after the program,” Dr. Kiechlin explained. “For example, some children can read aloud perfectly well but have little comprehension, while other children experience great difficulty reading aloud, yet have great comprehension. Each problem clearly indicates a weakness on one or the other side of the brain.”
Dr. Kiechlin says the goal of the program is to change the brain and bring it back
into balance by strengthening target areas of the brain that help.
