Twitter is online and the internet is public, as evidenced by the two-hour evacuation at High School South on Tuesday, March 10.
South student Anthony Cordero is being charged with third-degree false public alarm by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to Lt. Matt Kemp, Cordero does not have a prior criminal history. Although the exact tweets were not revealed, the tweets by Cordero mentioned a suicide bomb and referenced the Sandy Hook school shooting. No tweets were directed at High School South, though the tweets were circulated among a circle of friends who were in school at the time of the tweets.
“Can you imagine if the school didn’t respond?,” Lt. Kemp says.
Cordero was not in school when he made those tweets that Tuesday morning, though he was in attendance earlier in the day. While it is not unusual for students to leave the campus for lunch, Cordero’s absence was earlier and it was related to disciplinary action by the school, says Lt. Kemp.
Calls to Cordero’s attorney, Nick Travisano, were not returned.
