At its September 10 meeting, the WW-P school district Board of Education appointed its affirmative action officers for the 2013-’14 school year, as required by federal law, as follows:

Alicia Boyko, district affirmative action officer; Douglas Eadie, High School North; Donna Gibbs-Nini, High School South; Guy Tulp, Community Middle School; Jack Colella, Grover Middle School; Lori Skibinski, Millstone River School; Nicole Foulks, Village School; Janet Bowes, Dutch Neck Elementary School; Patricia Buell, Maurice Hawk Elementary School; Jeanine Bryde, Town Center Elementary School; and Michael Welborn, J.V.B. Wicoff Elementary School.

The following personnel changes were approved by the Board:

Lindsay Andros was appointed to replace Spanish teacher Lisa Lenihan, who is on leave;

Marisol Castro was appointed to replace Spanish teacher Ellen Blejwas, who is also on leave;

Laura Christie was hired as a Social Studies teacher at North; Maria deLeon was hired as a permanent Spanish teacher at Community; Christa Hannon was appointed as a Social Studies teacher to replace Jennifer Breisacher, who is on leave; Cindy Ortolano, was hired as a Special Education teacher to replace Theresa LaManna, who is on leave; Michael Thompson, who was also hired as a Special Education teacher; and Michelle Fisher was transferred from Community to Grover.

In addition, Jennifer Davis resigned after one year with the district; and Rickey Heckman resigned after 15 years with the district.

The Board also approved the admission of two international exchange students, who will be attending High School South for the 2013-’14 school year.

The board authorized 100 teachers and administrators to attend professional development workshops at Teachers College at Columbia University during the academic year, at a cost of $5,000, which comes out of 2014 No Child Left Behind Title II grant funds.

The Board also approved an initial one-year subscription for on-line student registration under Infinite Campus, the district student information system: for the following costs (which do not include implementation services): $15,000 for the initial one-year subscription; $7,500 for each subsequent year(s); and $3,900 for WW-P customization; as well as a one-year subscription for on-line teacher and staff evaluations for a one-time fee of $7,500 plus implementation services costs.

This is a one-time start-up expense for this program. The purpose behind it is to allow parents to complete most of the student registration process online, which will significantly streamline the registration process for new students, and shorten the actual appointment time considerably. The program will be piloted this January by incoming parents who are new to the district; it is expected that the program will be fully operational in time for kindergarten registration in the spring.
