Benefit Trek
Sandra Lebo of West Windsor is one of 25 college students to participate in the 4K for Cancer, Johns Hopkins University’s fourth annual cross country bicycle trek. A senior at Hopkins, she hopes to raise at least $3,”000 for the beneficiary of the event, Hope Lodge in Baltimore.
A graduate of High School South, Class of 2001, she was captain of women’s varsity lacrosse team and a member of Central Jersey Women’s varsity soccer team. At Hopkins, she is a psychology major with a concentration in brain sciences. A member of Psi Chi Honor Society and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, she is captain of the soccer team and plays varsity lacrosse.
The 64-day trip begins May 25 with 12 non-riding days scheduled for community service events in Baltimore. It ends at the Golden Gate Bridge after traversing through Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California.
“Each morning we will wake up early and bike 70 to 110 miles through America’s landscape, sharing our passion for our cause with everyone we meet,” says Lebo. “The trek will be a physical, mental, and spiritual battle but it is one I am excited to undertake.”
“On the road we will dedicate much of our time to community service events such helping with the Relay for Life in Cleveland and visiting cancer patients at a hospice in Kansas,” she says. “I hope that our enthusiasm throughout the trip will inspire others with a passion for service.”

Lebo is dedicating her trip to her grandparents, Nancy and Art Lebo of North Carolina. “My grandfather has battled cancer several times,” she says. “His passion for athletics has been a driving force for me.”
“My goal is to raise at least $3,”000 as my share of the $60,”000 the event hopes to contribute to Hope Lodge,” says Lebo. “I would be happy to read about the personal experiences of those who contribute — inspirational stories and heartbreaking ones that affect themselves and their loved ones.”
