Ashley Sarstedt, a student at High School South, received the Ange M. Giambelluca Memorial Scholarship Award for softball. Her grandson, Mike Giambelluca, presented the $500 award to her at the Mercer County final baseball tournament at Waterfront Park on May 18.##M:[more]##
She also received the Re/Max Quest for Excellence Scholarship for outstanding achievements in leadership. A member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, she planned events for students to benefit the March of Dimes, and volunteered with Program Pride, a program to help young people with social skills. John Terebey Jr. and Raymond Wolkind presented Sarstedt with a $500 check and certificate at the West Windsor office. Her father, Fred, is a Re/Max associate.
Laura Cook, a June graduate from High School North, received $1,”500 scholarship from Junior League of Greater Princeton. She is involved with the Red Cross Club and provides tutoring to younger students. She also volunteers at the University Medical Center at Princeton and the New Jersey Library for the Blind.
Cook is also the founder and president of WATS (Women Achieving Triumphs in Science) Program, the first of its kind for young women scientists. She is also first violinist in the school’s symphony orchestra and a senior soloist at an area dance studio. She plans to pursue a biology degree at Hamilton College.
Anne Murphy, a June graduate of High School South, received a $1,”000 scholarship from the Middlesex County Retired Educators’ Association. A Girl Scout since kindergarten, she received her Gold Award. She is a member of the National Honor Society and an active member of the school’s choir and field hockey team. Her volunteer activities include service at the Susan G. Komen Foundation. She was nominated for the award by her grandmother, Doris Hambach.
Murphy, the daughter of Carol and Michael Murphy, will attend Loyola College in the fall. She plans a career in business.
Adam Schuit, a pitcher with the High School North junior varsity baseball team, received the team’s 2006 Sportsmanship Award. Coach Michael Santaro presented the award at the annual banquet. Schuit had a pitching record of five wins and no losses this season, including a complete game, one hit shut-out in a 1-0 win against Ewing.
