Plainsboro Rescue Squad presents its inaugural auction of fine art, sports memorabilia, music, hors d’oeuvres and door prizes as a benefit for general squad funds. The event will be held at Community Middle School, 55 Grovers Mill Road in Plainsboro Saturday, September 30, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5.
“The donation we received from Plainsboro Township was $12,”000 less than we had requested,” says Sheryl Brown, art auction chairperson and the group’s administrative secretary. “This was further impacted by the recent large tax increase seen by Plainsboro homeowners, after which many people refused to donate to the Rescue Squad, somehow thinking that we were responsible for the tax increase.”
According to the webpage at www.plainsbororescuesquad.org, “The Plainsboro Rescue Squad is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from individuals and organizations. Everything from the ambulances, to uniforms, bandages and oxygen is paid for by voluntary contributions.”
Wrote Brown “Plainsboro Rescue Squad, staffed by volunteers and funded by donations, do not directly receive any tax dollars although they do receive donations from Plainsboro Township and the Plainsboro Board of Fire Commissioners. The balance of its operating budget is funded by voluntary donations. Over the last few years, donations have been flat, while costs continue to rise.”
To make a donation send a check to Plainsboro Rescue Squad, Box 76, Plainsboro 08536.
