The Arts Council of Princeton is set to kick off a season of performances, workshops and exhibitions with a free open house on Sept. 15.
During the open house, scheduled for 12 to 3 p.m., visitors can learn more about ACP classes, events, volunteers opportunities and membership. The event also features hands-on art activities for children, participatory art demonstrations for adults and interactive circus arts.
The opening reception for ACP’s annual Members Exhibiton is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 15. Along with members’ art work, Peter Cook’s Portraits of WPRB’s Jazz DJ’s will also be one display.
Sound Bites featuring Eric Mintel Quartet is set for 8 p.m. on Sept. 20. The jazz quartet is set to will discuss how they create a composition with demonstrations throughout the performance. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for ACP members, seniors and students.
The first open workshop and casting call for Jack and the Beanstalk in British Style Pantois scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 21.
The variety theater team is set to present a large-scale production of Jack and the Beanstalk in February. All ages interested in joining in on stage or helping out backstage should attend at least one of the three open workshops. Other workshops are set for 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 1 and 15.
Playwright’s Workshop with ACP artist in residence James Christy is scheduled for 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 24.
This workshop for age 14 to 18 uses a variety of writing exercises and in-class performances to help students develop new plays. Christy will encourage students to explore stories happening in Princeton. The class will use the two sides of the ACP’s Witherspoon Street and the Jackson-Witherspoon neighborhood as a model to explore stories.
The workshop is set to culminate in a public reading of short pieces from each class member.

Cafe Improv is set for perform music, poetry and comedy 7 p.m. on Sept. 28. Tickets are $2 for general public and $1 for ACP members, students and seniors. Other performances are on Oct. 26 and Nov. 23.
An opening reception for Thread Bare: Fabrics that Preserve and Protect is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 10.
Thread Bare, curated by ACP artistic director Maria Evans features five artists— Michael Cummings, Amy Orr, Rebecca Reeves, Ifat Shatzky and Marie Watt — who utilize textiles to preserve and protect their personal cultural perspective and engage the viewer in social and political dialogue using non traditional methods.
Princeton Piano Festival is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Oct. 13.
The annual Princeton Festival Piano Competition has gained recognition as a respected regional competition with a wide participation of young performers between the ages of seven to 25. Winners and finalists will present their pianistic excellence. Tickets are $10 for general public and $8 for ACP members, seniors and students.
Songs on the Theme of Knowing is scheduled for Oct. 16. This event is free.
Composer Michelle Nagai is set to present an installation and performance that had its Japanese premiere in Tokyo, Japan at the International House in May 2012. The work was performed again in the same month in Niigata, Japan at Niigata Sakkyukan, an historic building and regional culture center in the prefectural capital of Niigata.
Sound Bites featuring Jesse Fischer is set for 8 p.m. on Oct. 18.
Jesse Fischer was born and raised in Princeton. With a strong emphasis on catchy, infectious grooves and memorable melodies, Fischer’s music easily crosses boundaries between jazz, soul, and pop. Jesse Fischer and Soul Cycle will demonstrate various techniques during their performance including a display on how to use a vocoder in modern jazz.
Tickets are $10 for general public and $8 for ACP members, seniors and students.
DepARTures Storm King is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 20
Join Arts Council of Princeton executive director Jeff Nathanson on a bus trip to a sculpture park at Storm King Art Center, located in the Hudson Highlands.
At the park, Storm King president John Stern will lead a tour of the collection of more than 100 sculptures. The collection of sculpture is sited throughout Storm King’s 500 acre landscape, surrounded by the Schunnemunk and Storm King mountains.
The trip is presented in partnership with Princeton Adult School, in celebration of their 75th anniversary.
Tickets are $110 for general public and $90 for ACP members. Lunch and park admission are included. Registration is online.
Princeton Sound Kitchen is set to present Lisa Moore, Courtney Orlando, and Adam Sliwinski at 8 p.m. on Oct. 22.
Princeton Sound Kitchen performers are set to play percussion works by Donnacha Dennehy, Chris Rogerson, Amanda Feery, Jason Treuting, Viet Cuong, Dan Trueman, and Louis Andriessen. This event is free.
ACP’s annual Halloween parade is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Sound Bites featuring special guest Tom Neilson is set for 8 p.m. on Nov. 8.
Folk artist Tom is set to talk about his inspiration for songs, his process and craft throughout the performance to demonstrate the grassroots of folk music. Tickets are $10 for general public and $8 for Friends of Morven, ACP members, students and seniors.
Dining by Design at Grounds for Sculpture is scheduled for Nov. 26.
This cultural and culinary event attracts more than 400 guests in support of ACP community education programs including our ArtReach and Arts Exchange programs for at-risk youth. Tickets are $225.
Princeton Sound Kitchen is set to present works by Cameron Britt, Dave Molk, Cenk Ergun, Elliot Cole, Viet Cuong, Jason Treuting, Alex Dowling, Emma O’Halloran and Dan Trueman at 8 p.m. on Nov. 19. This event is free.
Sound Bites: Chanukah Celebration featuring the Klez Dispensers is set for 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 24.
The Klez Dispensers have been bringing the sounds of klezmer, jazz, Yiddish swing and original music to the Princeton area since 1998. Tickets are $12 for general public and $10 for ACP members, seniors and students.
An opening reception for Sauce for the Goose Holiday Sale is set for 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 6.
ACP’s annual “Sauce for the Goose” art sale showcases regional artists, artisans and crafters featuring a mix of fine art and functional crafts, including paintings, drawings, functional and decorative ceramics. The sale is open Dec. 6 though 21.
