New Jersey Opera Theater, based in West Windsor and run by West Windsor husband and wife team, Lisa and Scott Altman, received the Citation of Excellence from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, as well as a $32,”500 grant.##M:[more]## This was the first year of eligibility for NJOT and was the only new organization receiving funding for the first time, as well as the prestigious award.
“Since its founding in 2002, NJOT productions have played to consistently sold-out houses and received the highest praise from audiences and critics alike,” says Scott Altman, artistic director of NJOT.
Future performances include two semi-staged productions of Puccini’a “Turandot” featuring soprano Sharon Sweet and tenor Allan Glassman. Performances will be in March, 2007, at McCarter’s Matthews Theater and at the State Theater in New Brunswick.
“Our group of highly talented and deeply committed artists has been gratified by the public’s response to its efforts,” says Lisa Altman, executive director of NJOT. “We will build on this strong base and continue to bring the highest quality programming to our state and its people.”
