Jane Craven, art teacher at High Schools North and South, has been working with her South students to help them utilize their talents as well as offer them an experience outside of the art classroom. “The Memory Project” focuses on creating storybooks for children in northern Uganda, home to a brutal civil war.##M:[more]##
Students involved include Tori Hynes, Ally Trevorrow, Markeez Perry, and Anastassia Demircan.
“Containing beautiful artwork and calming text, one purpose of the books is to help the children find momentary peace of mind,” says Craven. “Another purpose, given that the war disrupts their education, is to help them read.”
“The project is to put a smile on a child’s face and ensure that all children who are reading the books have an experience that transports them from their tragedies,” she says.
