West Windsor Arts Council presents its sixth annual Autumn Arts Afternoon, an interactive visual arts festival, at the Nassau Park Pavilion on Saturday, October 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. The event features area artists who will share their talent and expertise in various art forms and media. Each artist will interact with the public and give them an opportunity to explore new or different techniques.
Dick Snedeker, longtime West Windsor resident, West Windsor Arts Council board member, engineer, and woodworker, will reprise his “Fabulous Sculpture Forms” with the assistance of Janet Felton and Shelly Bouchard. Attendees are invited to paint unique designs and decorate the forms. As the day progresses, the sculpture forms will go through several design transformations.
The still-life drawing station, led by artists Allen and Ina Marx, with assistants Judy Kaye, Al Chasan, and Connie Maglione, focuses on drawing with pencils, crayons, markers, and charcoal. Wakae Kobayashi and her friends will provide instruction and demonstration in the art of origami, the ancient art of Japanese paper folding.
New this year are Puzzle Art, Kolam Designs, and Pipe Cleaner Portraits. Lenora Kandiner, Jody Kendall, and Stefanie Mandelbaum, assist artists in decorating and coloring puzzle pieces to create original magnets or pins.
Kolam Designs, floor designs drawn at the entrance of homes in India to welcome visitors, will be presented by Dhruti Rathi, Beate Witzler, Shylaja Narayanan, and Renee Kumar. Attendees may also celebrate the Indian festival of Diwali at the event this year.
Pipe Cleaner Portraits, conducted by Heidi Kleinman, Maxine Shore, and Carol Schepps, focuses on creating self portraits or faces of favorite characters from pipe cleaners that can be made into wall hangings, mobiles, or other individual creations.
The event will take place rain or shine under the tent at the Nassau Park Pavilion. All supplies are included. Free.
“Every station is suitable for young and old, experienced and beginner,” says Amy Frankel, chair of the event. “Just bring your imagination.”
