Unveiling the Bamboo
Marie Alonzo-Snyder of West Windsor is preparing for the International CORD (Congress On Research in Dance) conference on Dance and Human Rights, to be held at the University of Quebec in Montreal this month. She will present a lecture demonstration including “Unveiling the Bamboo,” a work featuring her choreography coordinating with Jeff Nathanson’s music and Liz Madden-Zibman’s poetry.
The piece, first introduced in 2003, explores how a symbolic element from a traditional dance can provide the inspiration for a work that elicits images of oppression in contemporary dance. It shows a traditional Muslim influence on a Filipino dance.
