Celebrate the cultures of the world with colorful artwork and multicultural cuisine at West Windsor Arts Council’s opening of its fall exhibit, “Global Rhythms,” on Saturday, September 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring their favorite food and drink from anywhere in the world to share.
Global Rhythms expresses the cultural and global diversity, multiculturalism and connectedness of our area through the works of 28 local artists that were selected by juror Ferris Olin, co-founder and co-director of the Institute for Women and Art, administrator of The Feminist Art Project, and professor at Rutgers University. More than 80 submissions from 38 artists were received following the call to artists.
“It was very difficult to make selections because of the high quality of submissions received. The work is representative not only of the world at large but those residing in the West Windsor area,” said Olin of the selection process. “Not all parts of the world are represented because they weren’t represented in submissions, but the variety of global images can be seen here. It’s been a pleasure getting to meet local artists through their artwork.”
West Windsor artists featured in the exhibit include Amy Frankel, Elizabeth Peck, Elliot Gordon, Ina Brosseau Marx, Jody Kendall, Karen Schoenitz, Kathleen Liao, Renee Kumar, Sheila Vaidya, Therese Boucher, Timothy Parris, Valerie Ramos-Ford, and Wlodek Mandecki. The work of Vimala Arunachalam of Plainsboro is also on view,
All are welcome to the opening reception, with or without a dish to share. Artists will be on hand at the opening to discuss their work. The exhibit will run through October 14, gallery at 952 Alexander Road, West Windsor. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.
