Bruce Cooke of Plainsboro is one of the featured writers at Barnes and Noble author night on Thursday, March 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. His second book is “American Goods: A Collection of Essays of Public Interest on Law, Economics, and Sports.” “My book is a compilation of what I have learned from my education and from my love of sports and the issues in sports that I feel passionate about,” he says.##M:[more]##
His first book, “From Serfs to Kings, A History of the Baseball Labor Movement,” explores the record of what has transpired in the back rooms and courts of baseball’s ever-recurring labor struggles, based on a paper he originally wrote on labor relations while a student at New York Law School. “I have a big interest in baseball and I like to write, so it just seemed natural for me to write this book,” said Cooke in The News, on April 2, 2004.
Born and raised in Garfield, Cooke is a 1974 graduate of Muhlenberg College, earned his MBA from Rider University in 1983, and a law degree from New York Law School in 1991.
Cooke moved to Plainsboro in 1981 due to a job in Princeton, new housing available (Aspen), and proximity to the train station. A food program specialist with the Department of Agriculture, his job has since moved to New York City. He also tutors at Mercer County Community College, and works as a part-time attorney.
In his spare time, Cooke likes to run, and is running in a half marathon at the shore in May. He also plays tennis and softball.
