Community Middle School Science Olympiad teams competed against 19 other schools at the regional tournament this month. The A Team won the overall championship, while the B Team took sixth place. The coach is Kyle Schimpf, a teacher at CMS. The students received 21 medals in 26 events, with the A Team medaling in each event.
Anatomy: First place for Jason Yang and Shannon Weng; second place for Vainavi Mukkamala and Zain Sultan.
Biology Blitz (Trial): First place for Albert Sebastian and Yash Gupta; ninth place for Rudra Venkat and Vijay Josephs.
Boomilever: Second place for Devanei Solai and Arsh Rupani; 16th place for Akila Saravanan and Ezra Edelman.
Can’t Judge a Powder: Sixth place for Uday Shankar and Eshita Sangall; second place for Ranjan Mahanth and Satvik Sharma.
Disease Detectives: Second place for Charles Dai and Eshita Sangal; sixth place for Rudra Venkat and Kristina Khaw.
Dynamic Planet: First place for Anshu Jonnalagadda and Mridul Bansal; second place for Achyut Kasi and Vijay Josephs.
Entomology: Fourth place for Albert Sebastian and Yash Gupta; ninth place for Michael Zhang and Achyut Kasi.
Experimental Design: Sixth place for Nicholas Leung, Hasit Dantara, and Jonathan Wang; ninth place for Goutham Yalla, Satvik Sharma, and Jeffery Yu.
Helicopters: First place for Matthew Hong and Arsh Rupani; third place for Nikhita Subbiah and Shivani Prusty.
Rocks and Minerals: First place for Revanth Gumpu and Nicholas Leung; 13th place for Sonal Gupta and Michael Zhang.
Solar System: Second place for Anshu Jonnalagadda and Jason Yang; fifth place for Jeffery Yu and Goutham Yalla.
Water Quality: Second place for Charles Dai and Revanth Gumpu; fourth place for Roshan Mahanth and Martin Kong.

Choate Rosemary Hall: Katharine Li of Plainsboro was named to the fall term dean’s list.
Phillips Exeter Academy: Highest honor students include Brandon G. Kaplowitz, grade 12, of West Windsor; and Nikhil Raman, grade 12, of Plainsboro.

Elon University: Sara Rosenthal of Plainsboro is on the dean’s list for the fall semester. A 2012 graduate of High School North, she is double majoring in elementary and special education and is a teaching fellow.
University of Scranton: Victoria Armstrong of West Windsor was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester. A 2013 graduate of High School North, she is a freshman majoring in exercise science in Scranton’s Panuska College of Professional Studies.

Two all-girl robotics teams will be moving on to the First Lego League University of Pennsylvania Southeast Regional Championships.
Dream Green Machine won the first place champion’s award at the qualifier tournament. Team members include Grover Middle School students Neha Aluwalia, grade 8; Ruchi Aluwalia, grade 8; and Ankitha Jegan, grade 7. Community Middle School students include Sriya Bapatla, grade 6; Parul Joshi, grade 6; Prital Joshi, grade 6; Veepra Mishra, grade 6; Shambhavi Mishra, grade 8. Millstone River School students include Niyati Bantval, Sruti Bapatla, and Shreya Hegde, all in grade 5. The team is coached by Charu Jegan and Arun Bantval.
Green Machine received the Core Values Inspiration Award for its outstanding teamwork and outreach and will return to the regional championships for the fourth time. Green Machine members include Grover students Elsa Moroney, grade 6; Elizabeth Jean-Jacques, grade 8; Susan George, grade 7; Rosina Ananth, grade 6; and Himaja Vendidandi, grade 7. Community students include Sanjna Ravichandar, grade 8; Lauren Killackey, grade 6; and Isabella Pacheco, grade 6. Village School students include Miriam George and Kennedy Jean-Jacques, both grade 5. Team coaches are Karen Sue, Richard Moroney, and Sunil George.
FIRST (For Inspiration of Science and Technology) is a robotics program for ages 9 to 14 designed to get them excited about science and technology. Each year, teams around the world compete in a themed-contest with a robot built using Legor Mindstormer.
