Larissa Korkina of West Windsor has coordinated a piano recital to feature her students on Sunday, February 8, at noon, in Bristol Chapel, at Westminster Choir College. The students will present music of Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Schubert, and Haydn.
Korkina, born in Russia, has lived in West Windsor for 12 years. A concert pianist, she is an accomplished musician and an artist faculty member of Westminster Conservatory. She teaches piano to both children and adults at Westminster and at her home studio.
After studying at the Moscow Conservatory of Music, she attended Byelorussian Academy of Music, where she later became part of the music faculty. At four regional and national competitions in Russia, she received the “Best Accompanist” award.
Korkina now enjoys a successful career as chamber musician, coach, accompanist, and teacher. She has performed in concert at the Matinee Music Club, Academy of Music of Philadelphia, the Friends of Music Series at Taplin Hall, Princeton University, Longwood Gardens Concert Series, and Westminster Conservatory.
Korkina has been a coach and accompanist for Opera International and the Opera Festival of New Jersey. She has collaborated with opera singers, including Maria Guleghina of the Metropolitan Opera, Perry Ward, Hanli Stapela, and Jingma Fan. As a member of the Music Teachers National Association, she frequently serves as an adjudicator for competitions, festivals, and the New Jersey Governor’s School.
Joshua Huang, 17, is a senior at Princeton High School, where he is principal cellist for the orchestra. When he won the Piano Teachers Society of America competition, he was given the opportunity to perform at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
Carl Aquino, 13, was a winner in Young Artists Piano Competition of New Jersey, the Piano Teachers Society of America, and Westminster Conservatory Scholarship Competition. He has also performed at the Weill Recital Hall.
Thomas Almasi, 11, won the 2000 and 2002 Westminster Conservatory Concerto Competition and the was grand prize winner of the Piano Teachers Society of America. He has also performed at Weill Recital Hall.
Farshad Tahvildar-Zadeh is a fifth grader at Princeton Charter School. He was the winner in the Cecilian Music Club Young Artists Competition and Westminster Conservatory Scholarship Piano Competition.
