Browne, Diallo & Roy, a law firm located in the historic Grovers Mill section of West Windsor, held an open house on Thursday, May 8. The firm was founded in 2013 by attorneys Sandra Browne and Susan Roy of West Windsor and Claire Diallo of Plainsboro.
Sandra Browne focuses exclusively on serving families and small businesses in the local community. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in business and University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Browne began practicing law in 1995, starting her career as a corporate lawyer at McGuire Woods, and later working in the London office of New York law firm Shearman & Sterling, where she continued practicing corporate law, including international mergers and acquisitions. In 2002, Browne became the legal and commercial director of Microsulis Medical Ltd., where she oversaw all US, UK, and international legal and commercial matters for the company. She returned to private practice in 2004, focusing on advising small businesses and non-profit corporations, as well as assisting individuals and families with wills, trusts, and estate planning needs.
A member of the West Windsor Mayor’s Economic Advisory Board, she also volunteers with the PTA at her children’s schools, in local scouting and community sports organizations, and at her church.
Her husband, Duncan, the USA sales director for Johnstons of Elgin, occupies the building’s upstairs office. They have two children, Aidan and Amanda.
Claire Diallo graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in sociology and from University of Iowa College of Law. She clerked for the Larew Law Office and Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. and was legal counsel at Edwards Lifescience in Lausanne, Switzerland. She moved to Canberra, Australia, with her family and returned to the U.S. in 2009.
Her private practice focuses on first-party insurance litigation, where she represents policyholders and analyzes nuances of contract law in making sure that the rights of policyholders are fully protected.
She volunteers as a Girl Scout Brownie assistant troop leader and is a member of the PTA. Her husband, Ahmed, is deputy boundary group leader for the National Spherical Torus Experiment at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. Their children are Amael and Elias.
Susan Roy, a graduate of Rutgers, received a master’s degree in politics and public policy from the Eagleton Institute and graduated from Georgetown University Law Center. A former federal immigration attorney, she worked at both the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security. Roy’s practice focuses primarily on immigration law.
Roy is also the municipal news editor for West Windsor & Plainsboro News and an adjunct professor of English at Mercer Community College.
Her volunteer activities include being the West Windsor Township Sewer Commissioner and a member of the Mayor’s Economic Advisory Group. She has served as president and vice president of the PTAs of her children’s schools; and is a member of the WW-P’s Community Education Parent Advisory Council. A den leader for Pack 66 Cub Scout, she is a sitting member of Troop 40’s board of review and Eagle Scout board of review. A youth catechist at St. David the King Catholic Church, she also serves on the Social Concerns Committee. Roy received a New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Award in 2013.
Her husband, Patrick, is the project manager for Trac Intermodel in Plainsboro. Their children are Brendan and Bryan.
The building, known as the Grovers Mill barn, is a former 18th-century mill that later housed a feed and farmer’s supply store and then a lawnmower sales and repair business. Now owned by Louisa Ho and Carl Van Dyke of West Windsor, it has been refurbished into three offices and three apartments — all occupied. The architect is Kyle Paul Van Dyke (no relation) of Plainsboro.
There are artifacts from the original barn, including signs, beams, rafters, and pieces of mill equipment, There is also a tribute to War of the Worlds, the 1938 Orson Welles radio broadcast celebrated in West Windsor every October.
