Princeton Ballet School (PBS), the official school of American Repertory Ballet, is now enrolling! PBS has gained an international reputation for its excellent dance training since its founding in 1954 by Audrée Estey. At its three locations in Princeton, Cranbury, and New Brunswick, PBS offers classes in Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Character, Flamenco, and more.
What sets Princeton Ballet School apart from the usual dance school are its affiliation with a professional ballet company, its renowned faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and its dedication to live music in the classroom. “It improves students’ musicality, allowing them to adapt to live tempo changes, which is crucial for both technique and artistry,” says Aydmara Cabrera, Princeton Ballet School’s School Director. “Our classes mirror the professional world, where live music is key to both rehearsals and performances.”
PBS provides opportunities for students starting at age 2.5 all the way through its Adult Enrollment Classes. Whether you’re revisiting a favorite style, or trying something new, drop-in, register online, and get ready to dance! Classes are available for all levels. PBS also offers its award winning DANCE POWER program, and performance opportunities, such as the option to participate in American Repertory Ballet’s celebrated annual production of The Nutcracker.
In addition to its year round classes, PBS offers a variety of Summer Programs such as Children’s Camps, Ballet Intensives, and Adult Classes. Students participating in the first two weeks of the Summer Intensive will train with the Company Artists of American Repertory Ballet. Students participating in the final three weeks will have the chance to perform at the renowned McCarter Theatre in Princeton. “Students are part of the creative process,” says Cabrera. “They learn to balance teamwork with individual artistry, collaborating in a dynamic creative environment. They gain a deeper understanding of how ideas evolve into choreography and performance, and how the technical and artistic elements seamlessly come together.”
The Summer Intensive Advanced is an excellent way to begin Princeton Ballet School’s Trainee Program, which serves as a bridge between the student phase of training and a professional dance career. The Trainee Program is ideal for homeschool students ages 15 and up, as well as post-high school dancers, who are looking to further extend their training as they transition toward professional careers. Princeton Ballet School’s Trainee Program also offers international students the opportunity to complete the two-year program, as the school is certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) to enroll nonimmigrant students on F-1 visas. Based on individual progress and performance, trainees will have the opportunity to perform in American Repertory Ballet productions.
