A sustainable living series is set to being in May with a workshop on plants and gardening.
Scheduled workshops are Plants as Planet Partners, Garbage In, Garbage Out and Sipping, not Gulping Energy. The series is hosted by Sustainable Lawrence.
Workshops are comprise of three sessions scheduled for Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m.
The cost is $90 for the series or $10 per class.
Participants are eligible for a continuing education credit. One CEU is 10 hours.
Plants as Planet Partners is set for May 18, 25 and June 1 at Lawrence Nature Center, 481 Drexel Avenue, Lawrenceville.
This workshop beings with a session led by Tahirih Smith on Growing. Topics to be covered include gardening in the community and the Green Lawn Campaign.
Session II is titled Supporting. Representatives from Master Gardeners are set to discuss worms, rain barrels, bees and carbon footprints.
In session III, Judith Robinson is set to discuss food. Her talk features plant based diets and growing, preserving and exploring food.
Garbage In, Garbage Out is set for June 8, 15 and 22 at Terhune Orchards, 330 Cold Soil Road, Princeton.
Joe Cermele kicks off the workshop with Making Waste, a talk on invisible waste, sewer, water and how landfills work.
In session II, a representative from the Mercer County Improvement Authority is set to present Garbage Flows. Topics include moving trash around, upcycling, downcycling and surprising places to find garbage.
Representatives from TerraCycle and Hopewell Valley Green are set to lead session III, which is about solutions. Presenters are set to discuss buying strategies to reduce trash, repurposing waste and freeganing
Sipping, not Gulping Energy is set for July 13, 20 and 27 at Lawrence Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville.
The final workshop beings with Rodney Richards, who is set to discuss energy generation and its use.
Mike Winka is set to lead session II, which is about renewable energy and how to make it work for you.
In the last session, Phil Duran is set discuss modifying energy flows. Topics include appliances, timers, insulation and transportation options.
Additionally, Sustainable Lawrence members are planning a lunch series on sustainable practices for businesses on Wednesdays. Dates are to be determined.
Topics for the lunch sessions are set to include Your Waste, Your Surroundings, Your Energy and Your Community.
