Rider University’s Westminster Choir College will host its annual Celebration of Black Music festival from March 2-9.
The celebration will feature lectures, workshops, and a concert featuring the Westminster Jubilee Singers, Westminster Symphonic Choir and more.
Throughout the festival, the University will welcome a number of guest artists, including the South African ensemble Thula Sizwe. The 10-man group was formed during Apartheid and became cultural ambassadors for the country in 1994, following Nelson Mandela’s election.
The group has traveled to many countries around the world, sharing Zulu culture and promoting goodwill and peace.
Other guests include Dr. Felicia Barber, associate professor, adjunct, of choral conducting at Yale University; Dr. Rochelle Ellis ’00, performer, conductor and teacher, who has held positions as adjunct associate professor of voice at Westminster Choir College and lecturer of voice at Princeton University; Nathaniel Gumbs, director of chapel music at Yale University; and composer Dr. Rosephanye Powell ’87.
