Quaker Bridge Mall is set to host an opportunity for children with special needs to meet Santa Claus in an environment tailored for common sensory triggers.
Caring Santa, a Santa photo experience in a subdued environment, is scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. Dec. 8.
Simon Property Group’s Caring Santa program began in 2010 in partnership with AbilityPath.org, a national online resource hub and special needs community, to take steps to reduce sensory triggers, creating a more comforting environment for the children’s magical visit with Santa.
To create this environment in-mall music is off, escalators near the Santa set are stopped, lights are dimmed and fountains are off.
Instead of waiting in line, Caring Santa participants are given a number and wait nearby for it to be called. Children can participate in activities and stories readings during the wait period, which help them understand what will occur during their visit with Santa.
Shoppers are encouraged to RSVP for the Caring Santa event online at caringsanta.com.
Caring Santa is part of Quaker Bridge Mall’s Santa Weekend. The weekend also includes Breakfast with Santa, scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 7 at Brio Tuscan Grille. Breakfast features crafts, entertainment and a special appearance by Santa for a meal with families. Participants must make reservations by calling Brio Tuscan Grille at (609) 799-3169.
