Lawrence Township resident and member of Boy Scout Troop 28 Ryan Morris has earned the highest advancement award from the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), the Eagle Scout Award.
Morris is one of approximately four percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank. A formal ceremony and dinner were held on December 30, 2015 to celebrate his achievement.
Each Eagle candidate must earn at least 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue-related service project to earn Eagle rank. Morris chose to design and build a walkway for an environmental project at Ben Franklin School in Lawrence Township to allow students a path to a local stream for study.
As a member of Troop 28, Morris has served as a Troop Scribe and a Troop Guide. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow (OA), the national honor society of BSA. A 10th grader at Lawrence High School, Morris also participates in soccer, swimming, diving and lacrosse. He engages in community service through organizations such as Students Helping Honduras and Operation Smile. He is the son of Robert and Michelle Morris of Lawrence Township.
Morris joins other outstanding citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, cinematographer Steven Spielberg, former FBI Director William Sessions, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and television host Mike Rowe.
Troop 28 is open to boys who have completed fifth grade, and meets Friday nights from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Troop Hut at Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church.
