The Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF) is pleased to announce it has awarded over $62,000 in support of 20 innovative programs throughout the Lawrence Township Public Schools.
The grants, awarded to district teachers, will provide funding for projects and programs that are outside of the regular budget, covering a broad range of disciplines including science, math, character education, professional development, music and the arts.
All elementary schools across the district are set to receive funding for a program for first graders to expand and enhance their outdoor learning experiences through observation and discovery.
Other grants funded in elementary schools include the creation of a ceramic frieze at Eldridge Park School, sensory equipment to enhance the autistic support program at Slackwood School, hands-on learning science kits for second and third graders at Lawrenceville Elementary School, and non-fiction leveled reading books as well as interactive math software for students at Ben Franklin Elementary School.
At Lawrence Intermediate School, students will be able to experience cutting edge STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education with a 3D printer. The technology lab will implement a program with Minecraft EDU, and a program to transition rising 7th graders to the Middle School will be funded. Also LTEF provided a grant for iPads for special education students.
Lawrence Middle School, students will have the opportunity to learn more about careers in STEM education by the addition of a 3D Printer in the technology lab. Also at LMS, students will be encouraged to collaborate with teachers and each other with the implementation of an oval Harkness-style table instead of traditional desks in humanities classes.
LTEF awarded a grant for CrossFit gear for LMS’ physical education curriculum.
Other programs funded at LMS include a school assembly to encourage the importance of physical and mental well-being, computers to enhance an existing music program, and a book study with professional development program for building faculty.
English and Literature students at Lawrence High School will be part of an artist-in-residence program with the Philadelphia Shakespeare company to better understand drama through performance art, and once again LHS students will participate in the Challenge Day: Be the Change program in the fall.
LTEF is a nonprofit organization that fosters educational excellence, creativity, and achievement in the Lawrence Township Public Schools.
