The Lawrence Township Education Foundation presented checks in support of 30 grants to the Lawrence Township Public Schools at the November Board of Education Meeting. At the November Board of Education meeting, Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF) awarded $67,000 in support of 30 innovative projects and programs throughout the Lawrence Township Public Schools.
Two district-wide initiatives were awarded. The first will provide a series of free workshops for parents while the second will expand the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) disciplines for kindergarten students.
At the elementary school level, Lawrenceville Elementary received one grant to enhance their overall music program, one to provide engineering kits for first grade students and one to add math literature in classrooms. Funding for Slackwood Elementary School will buy balance bikes for special needs students as well as gardening kits. Other grants will fund Slackwood and Eldridge Park Elementary Schools’ Jump with Jill nutrition and fitness program and amplification systems for classrooms at Eldridge Park and Lawrenceville Elementary.
Grants awarded to Lawrence Intermediate School will support the repainting of the outdoor chess board, yoga mats in physical education class, interactive math games for fifth graders, assemblies about science and history, a new sound system, summer reading for special education students, an online subscription for better music assessment and the beautification of the outdoor classroom.
Lawrence Middle School students will have the opportunity to hone their video creation and presentation skills with the implementation of go-pro cameras, aerial drones, video editing software and Smart TVs in the school library. The arts programs will receive a portable spotlight, drums for the music department and a culminating school-wide arts festival.
Finally, funding for Lawrence High School will benefit an artist-in-residence program with distinguished artist Mel Leipzig, improvements to the school pool, a remedial reading program and a model congress simulation.
The Lawrence Township Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that fosters educational excellence, creativity and achievement in the Lawrence Township Public Schools.
