Boy Scout Troop 28 from Lawrenceville earned the Honor Troop Award during a trip to Camp Rodney in Maryland.
Along with the Honor award, eighteen scouts earned a total of 57 merit badges. The troop focused on earning badges required for Eagle status; including camping, lifesaving, first aid, personal fitness and cooking.
Troop members Matthew McChesney and Evan Monfre completed the mile swim, an individual accomplishment offered at the camp.
Noah Hotz, Garrett Monfre and Jack Wagner participated in a sailing trip from North East, Md., to Baltimore. During the five day trip, they learned sailing and motor boating skills, astronomy, oceanography, and weather knowledge.
New scouts, Ethan Strasfeld and Patrick Wert were members of Brownsea Patrol #7, the Psycho Purple Elephants who were voted the honor of being the most “annoying” first-year patrol because of their loud cheers, participation and questions during patrol activities. These Scouts work on rank requirements and also had the opportunity to earn merit badges in nature and swimming.
The troop earned the Honor award for participation in group activities, including flag ceremonies, campsite cleanup, maintenance, volleyball, swimming, sailing, mountain biking, “ironman,” rifle, archery, shotgun, skits, Scouts-own-Service and conducting a service project at camp. Troop 28 had a perfect score in flag ceremonies, averaged 97 on campsite cleanup and maintenance, was active in the Scouts-own-Service, finished second in the volleyball tournament and completed a road maintenance service project.
Kyle Jorgensen served as the Senior Patrol Leader and guided the troop to the recognition.
Of the 20 troops at Camp Rodney, Troop 28 was one of six to attain the Honor Troop Award.
