Throughout the month of April, the Lawrence Library hosted its 9th annual TrashedArt Contest. The contest encouraged people to look at trash differently and repurpose items destined for the landfill by transforming them into art.
The Friends of the Lawrence Library sponsored prizes for both adult and student categories, as well as providing food for the reception on Saturday, April 21. Winners won gift cards to the local Lawrenceville art shop, Jerry’s Artarama. Linda DuBrow won first place for the adult category with “Manhattan Skyline and Brooklyn Bridge,” Michele Ben-Asher won second place for “April” and Connie Cruser won third place for “Spring Blossoms.”
Ashley Fried won first place for the student category with “Taking from the Earth,” Pritika Gulati won second place for “Pani” and Abby Kelvy won third place for “Earth.” W
inners were chosen by a panel of judges from the Friends of the Lawrence Library, staff from the Mercer County Library System as well as the surrounding art community, including Kathleen Metaxas, an instructor for the Arts Council of Princeton and Lisa Thomas from Jerry’s Artarama.
An honorable mention was also awarded to Robert Caivano for “Flint phone with mouse-cage charging station.” Caivano was selected for the “People’s Choice Award” by patrons of the library.
