The Watershed Institute will celebrate Earth Day with volunteers on April 6 and 13 as it works to remove trash, litter and debris from local rivers and streams at its 13th Annual Stream Cleanup.
In past years, volunteers have pulled vacuum cleaners, toys, car parts, dog houses, furniture and other items from local waterways. Plastics in all forms—from single-use drinks to bags, cups, and food wrappers—are the most common trash that are removed each year. Over the past 12 years, according to the Watershed Institute, these efforts have helped remove more than 105,000 pounds of garbage with the help of 5,400 volunteers.
