As part of David Library’s History at the Movies film series, “The War That Made America: The Story of the French and Indian War” will be shown over August 8 and August 15, 2015.
The David Library of the American Revolution’s occasional film series, “History at the Movies” is set to continue this summer with free screenings of films that explore significant moments in America’s past.
On Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m., the library will show “Revolution,” a 1985 historical drama starring Al Pacino as the father of an imprisoned patriot soldier. The version being shown is a “director’s cut” released in 2009. The film is 1 hour, 55 minutes long and received a MPAA Rating of PG.
On Tuesday, July 28 at 7 p.m., the 2014 documentary “Freedom Summer: Mississippi 1964” will be shown. In the hot summer of 1964, more than 700 student volunteers joined with local organizers and citizens in the Deep South to challenge segregation and voter suppression. The film has been made available for screening at the David Library through the “Created Equal” initiative, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Gilder Lehrman Institute. The documentary is 2 hours long and is rated PG by the MPAA.
The made-for-television documentary series “The War That Made America: The Story of the French and Indian War” will be shown over two Saturdays, August 8 and August 15. Both parts will be screened at 3 p.m. and each screening is two hours long. The dramatic documentary series brings to life the important but often misunderstood period of American history that led up to the American Revolution. The program, which accurately portrays the dangerous world of the 18th-century American frontier, is narrated and hosted by Graham Greene, the Oneida Indian actor best known for his Oscar-nominated performance in “Dances With Wolves.”
