The world of Dr. Seuss comes alive at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre when Seussical the Musical takes center stage.

Scheduled to run three weekend in July, Seussical is based on the characters and stories of Dr. Seuss. The plot incorporates elements from at least 15 books and includes appearances by many of Seuss’ most famous characters.

The story follows the adventures of Horton, an elephant who one day hears voices coming from a speck of dust. He soon discovers that within this tiny speck exists the smallest planet in the universe. While Horton is ridiculed by the other animals in the Jungle of Nool for believing in something he cannot see, he stubbornly persists in his belief that the Whos exist.

In a parallel story, Jojo, the smallest child in the city of Who, is ostracized for the unpopular act of thinking — an activity not encouraged by the parents and teachers of Whoville.

During the show, one of Seuss’s most famous characters, The Cat in the Hat pops in and out of scenes, narrating, playing numerous characters, and helping the younger members of the audience keep track of what’s going on.

Seussical’s cast includes Louis Palena as The Cat in the Hat, Jill Palena as Gertrude McFuzz and Susan Keeth as Mayzie LaBird. These actors reprise roles they first played in the 2010 Open Air Theatre production.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 .

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and under.

The theatre will be transformed into Agrabah, the City of Enchantment when the classic musical tale, Disney’s Aladdin, Jr. comes to life for two weekends.

The musical is an adaption of Disney’s 1992 Academy Award-winning film Aladdin and features songs like “A Whole New World,” “Friend Like Me,” “Arabian Nights,” “Prince Ali,” and “One Jump.”

Performances are scheduled for 11 a.m. July 11, 12, 18 and 19; 4 p.m. July 13 and 20.

Tickets are $5.

The Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre is located inside Washington Crossing State Park at 355 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road, Titusville.
