After receiving numerous notifications from Trenton Water Works about water quality concerns, the Hopewell Township Committee ordered independent testing to better understand the quality of the water service.
The township has announced results from the independent testing of six locations across areas of the community served by Trenton Water Works.
The analysis found bacteria, lead, copper and pH levels all within normal range. Some disinfectant residual was elevated at three of the six locations.
While one set of elevated testing results does not necessarily indicate a larger problem, township officials said in a release that it does suggest that regular testing protocol should be established to monitor water quality.
In light of this information, the Hopewell Township Committee will continue to petition TWW and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to improve the water treatment plant infrastructure, to reduce disinfectant residuals in the water supply, and to sample the disinfectant residuals within the township.
Township officials said in a release that this will help assure all users of the system are fairly represented. It will also assure TWW meets the system’s obligation to routinely flush the lines within our community.
