Timberlane Middle School Brandon Li is a winner of the Princeton Festival’s 2014 Piano Competition.
The 13-year-old pianist impressed judges with his performance of Fauré’s Impromptu No. 2 in F minor, Op. 31 to win the Junior Artist category. He was awarded a $200 cash prize and a challenge trophy for his outstanding achievement.
The competition is open to the public, and three finalists are selected from each category in the preliminary round to enter the final round. This year’s adjudicators are concert pianist Svetlana Smolina of Michigan University and Mannes College of the Juilliard School faculty member J.Y. Song.
Li has been studying piano under Dr. Bing Bing Chang of Princeton since 2009. He has received of numerous other awards from events such as the Crescendo International Music Competition and the yearly NJMTA Spring Piano Festival, where he has received the High Honours Award for five years of exceptional accomplishment.
Li also accompanies his school and church choirs and is set to be the piano accompanist for Hopewell Valley Children’s Theatre’s summer production of The Wizard of Oz.
