Alexander Cuevas Women with Purpose is set to host a dinner on June 16 at 6 p.m. at the Washington Crossing Inn. June’s recipient is Alexander Cuevas, a five year old from Hamilton. Cuevas was born prematurely, which left him with a weak immune system. Shortly after birth, he contracted a particularly severe case of necrotizing enterocolitis, an infection that kills tissue in the intestines. In order to beat the infection, he had to have his entire colon and the majority of his small intestine removed. Today Cuevas receives the majority of his nutrition from Total Parenteral Nutrition. The longer he relies on it, the more likely he is to suffer dangerous infections and complications. Therefore, he has been evaluated and added to the national transplant list. The surgery costs $2 million dollars on average. He will need to be in Pittsburgh, where the surgery will take place for nearly one year after the surgery and will need immunosuppressant drugs for life. The dinner costs $23 per person, including tax and gratuity, to be paid in cash to the Inn. Additionally, there is a minimum contribution of $10 cash or check to Women With A Purpose.
