Throughout the week of Aug. 4, the New York Yankees and their minor league affiliate, the Trenton Thunder, awarded local organizations and individuals who spread a message of HOPE.
The Trenton Thunder recognized eight-year-old Hamilton Square resident Isabelle Julian during HOPE (Helping Others Persevere and Excel) Week.
On each day of HOPE Week, the Thunder shine a spotlight on a different individual, family or organization worthy of recognition and support. Each day is designed so honorees can share their inspirational stories with the players, fans and the media, while being surprised with the day of their dreams. Though each day’s celebration ultimately culminates with a visit to Arm & Hammer Park on the day of a game, outreach typically takes place at a location in the community that symbolizes the accomplishments of the honoree.
Julian’s school, Sayen Elementary, nominated her for this award for her generosity.
Since age five, Julian has not asked for a single present for her birthday; instead, she asks her friends and family to make donations on her behalf. Her birthday donations have supported the Hamilton Township Library, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen and Sayen Elementary.
Beyond her birthdays, Julian helped raise almost $400 dollars for Anchor House charities by selling toys and clothes at a yard sale. She also donated her hair to Locks of Love, an organization that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair while undergoing chemotherapy.
When she’s not doing charity work, Julian is a regular kid who enjoys soccer, playing with friends, reading, building worlds in Mine Craft and going to the beach. She is very close to her little brother, Liam and even used her Christmas money to buy him a presents instead of items for herself.
For her upcoming birthday, Julian has decided to raise money for Autism research. This is very close to her heart, as this year Liam was diagnosed on the autism spectrum.
Last year, Julian was honored with KidsBridge’s Young Humanitarian Award and Sayen’s Rising Star award.
