Hamilton Township council has appointed former school board member Dina Thornton to fill the vacancy left by Ed Gore.
Gore resigned in February to take a position as the township’s assistant public defender.
Thornton served four years on the Hamilton Township Board of Education, earning a tenure as the board’s Vice President, and as head of the board’s superintendent search, special education, and policy committees. Thornton finished her term on the school board in January; she lost her bid for re-election in November 2016.
She previously was president of the Mercerville Elementary School PTA, and is currently is second vice president of the Mercerville PTA and secretary for the Crockett Middle School PTA.
“I am honored and humbled to have been selected to serve our community as a member of the Township Council. I recognize the opportunity that I now possess to help make an important and positive difference in the lives of my fellow residents—and particularly for our younger generations who, like my own children, hold a great stake in the future of our community,” Thornton said in a statement.
Thornton was unanimously selected by the township council in mid-March, becoming the second female representative on the current body. Ileana Schirmer is the other.
Thornton, 45, has lived in Hamilton for 11 years and is a hairstylist at Salon Cusato and a sales associate with Weidel Real Estate. She has three children, all attending Hamilton Township schools.
