As part of the county’s 175th anniversary, residents are invited to share their historical photos and documents at Participate Please scanning events.
County staff are set to scan artifacts to create a digital copy and preserve Mercer County history.
Residents are asked to bring up to three items representing themselves, their ancestors and their community. Photos taken at homes, sites and events within Mercer County are encouraged.
Scanned photos are set to be shared online. Contributors will be asked to complete a release form granting permission to include scanned photos and papers in Mercer County’s collections and internet archives. They will also be asked to fill out a form providing information about each item.
Owners who wish to have a digital copy of their photos or documents should bring a flash drive to store the files. Contributors will keep the original item.
The first Participate Please event is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. May 7 at the Lawrence Branch of the Mercer County Library System, 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrence.
The next event is set for 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. May 20 at Mercer County Connection located in the Acme shopping center on Route 33 in Hamilton.
Scanning may also be done at Mercer County’s McDade Administration Building, 640 South Broad St., Trenton. Schedule an appointment at (609) 989-6597.
