Visitation Home, Inc. and the Rotary Club of Hamilton partnered in an endeavor to provide more than 100 backpacks to Hamilton students through the Backpack Challenge.
The finished products will be delivered the first week of school to students in local elementary schools.
Morgan Tylus, director of operations for Visitation Home, Inc.—a Hamilton-based company that provides low-income housing and day programming for adults with developmental disabilities—said the Backpack Challenge was a collective effort by residents and day program participants who have special needs, and their families.
“The Rotary of Hamilton provided some of the needed funds toward the purchases and contributed some supplies as well,” Tylus said. “It was a joy to see our community come together. Our mission at Visitation Home is to see the dignity in all people and to serve those who need our help, as we strive to be a productive member of the community in which we live.
“This project was perfect for our residents and day program participants to give back to the community that gives so much to us. We were proud to welcome the wonderful people from the Rotary to our home and to work alongside them for the greater good of the community.”
Members of the Rotary Club of Hamilton joined the residents and staff at Visitation Home on Saturday, Aug. 25 to fill each of the 100+ backpacks with notebooks, crayons, markers, pencils, erasers, glue and pencil cases.
“It was a wonderful morning of friendship, generosity of spirit and community,” Jean Withers, president of the Rotary of Hamilton, said.
