Despite retiring from active competition 12 years ago, fifth degree black belt Ed Yuncza returned to the tournament circuit at the 43rd annual Battle of Atlanta national karate tournament on June 15.
Yuncza won first place in the men’s over 40 black belt heavy weight sparring division competition hosted at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel and Convention Center in Georgia.
Twenty-three time undefeated Professional Karate Association world champion, Bill “Superfoot” Wallance trained Yuncza for the national competition.
Yuncza is the founder and chief instructor of E.Y. Martial Arts & Self-Defense Concepts in Hamilton.
He has been involved in the martial arts for nearly 30 years and is an inducted member of both the U.S.A. Martial Arts Hall of Fame and Action Martial Arts Magazine’s Hall of Honors.
Yuncza is also a published author and contributor to Black Belt and Inside Kung Fu magazines. In 2011, he released his first full-length book, Sport Karate Point Sparring.
