Saint Raphael middle schoolers are preparing for a SeaPerch competition in April.
The school’s SeaPerch club is set to compete in the Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch Challenge at Drexel University.
The schools said SeaPerch club is part of their STEM, science, technology, engineering and math, approach to teaching. STEM incorporates hands-on-activities into its subjects’ lessons.
The school said the club has 36 members.
The students are participating in The SeaPearch Project created by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is sponsored by the Office of Naval Research to increase interest in STEM subjects and introduce them to naval engineering.
The school said this year the club will compete in the vehicle performance category. Students are to design and build a remotely operated vehicle for the regional competition in April.
