A drummer who toured with Bon Jovi visited Grice Middle School’s Woodshop Rocks class Dec. 2.
Ewing native Rich Scannella filled in for regular Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres, who underwent an emergency appendectomy. After having one week to prepare, Scannella joined the band for concerts in South America, including the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil.
Scannella shared his experiences of touring with a rock and roll legend and performing in front of 80,000 people with Michael Friedman’s eight grade woodshop class.
Students in Friedman’s class are building their own electric guitars, bass guitars and ukuleles.
Scannella autographed the Hurricane Sandy “Restore The Shore” guitar, built by students in Friedman’s 2012-2013 Woodshop Rocks class. Scannella’s signature is accompanied by autographs from Bobby Bandiera, Southside Johnny and Governor Chris Christie.
They are attempting get signatures from Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen. They plan to auction off the guitar and donate all of the proceeds to the Hurricane Sandy “Restore The Shore” charity.
