For the fourth year in a row, artists from HomeFront’s ArtSpace program will be featured alongside national and local artists in a pop-up art exhibition.
ArtJam is scheduled to run Nov. 14 – 24 in the newly renovated space donated by Studio Hillier, 190 Witherspoon St., Princeton. The exhibition is set to be open to the public 12 – 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; and 12 – 6 p.m. Sunday.
According to HomeFront executive director Connie Mercer, ArtSpace is a therapeutic art program that works to “lessen the immediate pain of homelessness and help families become self-sufficient and our give clients the skills and opportunities to ensure adequate incomes.”
As well as supporting the valuable work of the ArtSpace program, the exhibition showcases the work that HomeFront artists and others from the Trenton community have produced.
Among the artists participating in the show are Jon Shedd, Cynthia Groya, Gyuri Hollosy, Silvere Boureau, Nancy Herrington, Shirley Kern and the A-Team Artists of Trenton.
Sculptor Gyuri Hollosy, who works in a studio at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, donated a bronze sculpture, “Dancing Loons,” and a painting to the show. He has been awarded several large commissions including the Aspirations for Liberty in Boston, Mass.
The exhibition also features work by Emily Lewis, a ArtSpace participant who was discovered at the 2009 ArtJam. She is now a senior at Parsons The New School for Design in New York.
Lewis, a single mother and high school dropout, came to HomeFront to participate in the WorkFirst job-training program for welfare recipients. After being encourage to apply to the prestigious art school, she won a four-year scholarship to Parsons.
Artwork exhibited is for sale; 50 percent of the proceeds are set to benefit the HomeFront’s mission.
